A comprehensive assessment of the European environment's state, trends and prospects, in a global context.
The EU's eastern neighbours have achieved progress in developing systems for collecting environmental information, according to a recently published analysis. However, they need to strengthen further their capacities to be able to produce regular, policy-relevant and indicator-based state of the environment reports. (just click the EEA logo to read it)
   The EU-Russia Year of Science 2014 is a joint initiative of the EU-Commission and the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation  organised with the EU Member States across the EU and Russia. Its objective is to highlight the achievements and the potential of the rich science and research cooperation between Russia and Europe. With the EU-Russia Year of Science a new era of S&T cooperation between Russia and the EU will be opened related to the launch of the new European framework programme 'Horizon 2020' as well as the Russian State Programme and the Federal Targeted Programmes for R&D. These programmes provide the ground for a new balanced relationship in science, technology and innovation based on shared responsibility through co-funding and programme-level coordination.
2014 - Year of Brain in Europe.
The most complex structure in the universe lies inside each and every one of us. It is the human brain with billions of neurons. It is still not fully understood by science despite the considerable progress which has been made in recent decades. As our understanding of the brain increases, it brings new insights, new treatments, new risks and new moral dilemmas.

OPEN EDUCATION WEEK 2014, 10-15 March. Open Education is, at its core, about free and open sharing. Free, meaning no cost, and open, which refers to the use of legal tools (open licenses) that allow everyone to reuse and modify educational resources.  Free and open sharing increases access to education and knowledge for everyone, everywhere, all the time.  It allows people to make changes to materials or to combine resources to build something new.  Open Education incorporates free and open learning communities, educational networks, teaching and learning materials, open textbooks, open data, open scholarship, open source educational tools and more. Open Education gives people access to knowledge, provides platforms for sharing, enables innovation, and connects communities of learners and educators around the world.

International Conference "Ecology of Urban Areas" 2013 The International Conference "ECO URBAN' 2013 has the goal to integrate scientific, technological and experimental knowledge in this field. The Conference will take place in 11th October 2013 in hotel „Kaštel – Ečka: Hunting Manor“, Ecka/Zrenjanin, Republic of Serbia. The United Nations General Assembly declared 2013 as the United Nations International Year of Water Cooperation (Resolution A/RES/65/154). UN-Water has called upon UNESCO to lead the 2013 United Nations International Year on Water Cooperation, in particular because of the Organization’s unique multidisciplinary approach which blends the natural and social sciences, education, culture and communication.
2013 - Year of Air.
Clean air will be the focus of EU environmental policy discussions throughout 2013, the Year of Air. The European Environment Agency (EEA) provides a wealth of information underpinning the review of air pollutant legislation
2013 will be the European Year of Citizens. The better the men and women of Europe understand their rights as EU citizens, the more informed the decisions they can take in their personal lives, and the more vibrant democratic life in Europe can be at all levels.
